Music at the club this Saturday – New Orleans style gypsy jazz dance music

Laura Lackey Rhythm Revue will be performing this Saturday Evening at the Sportsmen’s Club.  Laura Lackey’s Rhythm Revue play all shades of Americana Roots Music! Swing and New Orleans Jazz to Blues, Calypso and Gospel. Playing standards in their own style and many original songs based in the improvisational traditions of jazz and blues, the hot dance floor tunes are fresh and entertaining and the lineup often includes guest musicians from all over the globe!  A guaranteed hit!  The bar will be open from 430pm onwards the music will start around 8 or 830pm.  Bring your dancing shoes -you will need them!!   Watch the included video to hear a sample of their music!!

 

What is the occasion you may be asking!!  Well early in the evening there will be a pop-up dinner in the Galley Cafe.  The guests from this dinner have already been confirmed so at this time there are no more tickets for dinner.  The real party will be at the Club after the dinner so come on out and enjoy the fun.

 

This is not a club sponsored event so Club Members will pay the normal Club Member Prices.  For the sake of accounting, members will run a tab for the event.  No cash from members once the register is prepped for the event.  The drink prices for non-members will be $8 mixed drink, $6 – Beer, $4 soda.  ($2 of all drinks from non-club members will go towards paying the band)  The Club will still make it’s normal money on all drinks, hopefully we have a good turn out and the band will get paid their fee!  Contributions to the band will of course be accepted !!

The current formation is lead by Bay Area vocalist Laura Lackey and includes Ross Plunkett on trumpet, Cricket Seuss on saxophone, Attila Kovacs on double bass and Katie Grenell on guitar. and frequently featuring many talented guest artists from around the world. The performance is always fresh featuring instruments such as trombone, washboard and keys! Melding the best of early twentieth century swing with the many voices of todays living jazz musicians!

Laura Lackey’s Rhythm Revue began as spontaneous meetings between street musicians in 2011. The band made their way into the nightlife of Budapest, Hungary and have played swing dances and festivals Germany, Austria, Slovenia and all over the USA. With acoustic instrumentation including double bass, trumpet, saxophone and resonator guitar they are led by vocalist Laura Lackey who began playing music in the San Francisco Bay Area with the Sour Mash Hug Band and later in New Orleans, New York, London, Vienna and Berlin with the Whiskeyhickon Boys and Polish Coffee.
